Journalist in Residence Programme
Three prominent German university institutions and AIAS open their doors to leading journalists. Together they offer a fellowship that allows for a one to three-month paid residence. The scholarship offers journalists the opportunity to work on an innovative journalistic product in the field of social-economic policy, the welfare state and European Integration.
The scholarship – officially called Journalist in Residence Fellowship- is the product of a collaborative program of the Max Planck Institute for Social Science in Cologne, the Centre for Social Science in Berlin (WissenschaftsZentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung), the Centre for Social politics of the University of Bremen (Zentrum für Sozialpolitik) and AIAS. Dutch journalists can apply for a residence fellowship at each of these institutions.
The institutions offer the journalists access to several project groups within their academic community. In this way, they will gain a better insight in the nature and precision of prevailing social-economic research while at the same time the employees of the institutions can profit from the practical expertise of the journalists. This initiative that comes from the Max Planck Institute is financed by the Volkswagen foundation. Journalists can apply on an individual basis for a fellowship or a stipendium (see below); an allowance of max. 5.000 Euro a month is available per person.
More information about the project and selection procedure can be found at the website of the Max Planck Institute (www.mpifg.de). Applications can be directed at Ms. Christel Schommertz. Contact person for the program is Prof. Jelle Visser jelle.visser@uva.nl. The selection procedure is open till 16 November 2009. See for more information www.uva-aias.net/news_agenda/news/237.
